Movie: Have you seen "The Departed"? It was definitely my fave movie of last year. I really liked "Hot Fuzz"--pretty hilarious, although "Sean of the Dead", which is with the same guys, is a bit funnier, IMHO.

TV Show: Have you seen "Deadwood"? Probably in like top 5 fave shows of all time. Swearingen is one of the most amazing characters I've seen come to life. There is a lot of swearing, though. I second the Rome recommendation of "Rome", which is fantastic. "Battlestar Gallactica" is amazing, but you really would have a lot of catching up to do (if you decide to see this one, definitely start with the mini series before going into Season One.
