(This icon is a joke. It was like 70 degrees here today.)
So, less than twelve hours after I registered for
muskratjamboree, there's a post to the
connexions yahoo group (the first official word since I think October) that the con is definitely happening.
Of course, the two cons are happening on the same weekend.
I could still easily, at this point, relinquish my spot at Muskrat Jamboree to someone on the waiting list and attend Connexions, but I'm thinking... not.
Muskrat Jamboree is insanely closer. I will not have to drive 7 hours in my ancient car or, alternatively, pay a hefty amount of cash to fly down.
Mr WG won't have to take vacation time for me to attend Muskrat Jamboree -- he can work from home on the Friday so that he can meet the boy at the bus stop, and otherwise I'll only be gone on the weekend. If I go to Connexions, he has to take three days off -- two to account for my travel and a third for Friday.
Muskrat Jamboree will be cheaper overall because of close proximity.
I won't be nearly as stressed about the travel if I don't have to drive to Connexions.
I'll get to meet new people (which is scary OMG eeeeeee, but in the long run a good thing for me.)
The bad things are missing Connexions, which I've really enjoyed when I attended, and not getting to see friends who might attend.
Urgh. Thoughts appreciated! Who on my flist thinks they'll be going to Connexions?

Date: 2007-01-06 11:50 pm (UTC)I don't LOVE the bus station hotel, but I've not minded it for the most part. I am less impressed with the lack of communication and apparent lack of preparation, that's for sure.

Date: 2007-01-06 11:41 pm (UTC)I'd say stick with the Muskrat Jamboree -- they at least seem on the ball organising on top of it being closer to you. If it becomes an annual thing, maybe I'll check it out next year.

Date: 2007-01-07 01:14 am (UTC)EPICon sounds like a reasonable thing to try out, certainly! I hope you learn lots of cool things and have a great time. *Smooch*

Date: 2007-01-07 05:29 am (UTC)...so I contemplate Connexions.
But I may just skip these and hit one of the science fiction conventions or go with my pal the game designer (

Date: 2007-01-08 12:05 am (UTC)I was totally surprised that Connexions is happening. If word had come down sooner I might have very well made a different decision, but I think things do happen for a reason (sometimes, at least) and Muskrat will be good for me, I hope. *Hugs you* I'll obviously miss seeing you, though, if you end up going to Connexions. You were definitely one of the people I thought might go, what with it being not too unreasonably far away from you...

Date: 2007-01-08 12:09 am (UTC)MJ's registration filled up in an insanely short amount of time, like, hours. I was shocked (and a little sad, since it means no space for people like you and JH to come!)
