Another reason rats are great -- they're like dogs. Very small dogs, to be sure, but they are happy to eat almost any leftovers you might have. You drop a cracker on the floor and discover when you pick it up that there's cat hair clinging to it? Give it to the rat! Your child doesn't finish his macaroni and cheese and you suspect it's been sitting out a few minutes past the two-hour room temperature limit? Give it to the rat! The rat will eat anything!

We had waffles with strawberries and whipped cream for breakfast. Mmmm. Strawberries.

My rats loved the rest of my Top Ramen noodles.

As a child, my family always had chickens that would eat all your food scraps, and since going to college, I always feel really wasteful when I toss my excess food into the garbage. Something about starving people in other countries I believe my grandma used to say.
