Wednesday. I can never keep track.

The boy and I went out to do some errands this morning, including picking up some photos we had made and a trip to Target for reasonably priced antihistamines and some photos frames. Because I'm easy, I also bought the boy a car wash toy for his collection of Matchbox and HotWheels cars -- he used to have a cool track thing for them, but it broke, and it's nice to have something to DO with all the annoying little cars. Because I'm not particularly mechanically inclined, it took me ages to put the darned thing together. Ugh. With the boy breathing down my neck the whole time: "Is it done? Mommy? Is it almost done?" He's been playing with it off and on since we got home, though, so I think it was a good purchase despite the 'real water and soap bubbles' that are methodically soaking through my placemats one by one.

I'm working on one of my McShep stories again. I think it's an example of my contrary nature -- because I've been left with the impression that SGA fandom is unwelcoming of newbies and so cliquey that only the BNFs 'should' be writing fic, I feel the need as a newbie-and-non-BNF to write fic. And post it. If anyone doesn't like my fic or characterizations or whatever, that's their perogative, but no one can tell me what to do. Um, except my betas, because they are invaluable and I lovesss them.

I got this recipe from Laurel's Kitchen, but changed it a bit to suit my tastes and desire for a greater ratio of protein to grain. It's vegan and very yummy.

Rice Lentil Polou )

We had this with maple-glazed carrots and Bountiful Beer Bread from Tastefully Simple. I made the bread with a bottle of Sam Adams' Octoberfest and it's awesome. (I wouldn't pay $5 for a box of bread mix, by the way. My mom bought it at one of those home parties, but she doesn't really do much in the way of cooking, so she gave it to me. Who am I to argue?)
