Answer quickly!

I ordered a video game for my niece for Christmas. It is now the Amazon Gold Box deal (for an hour) and $17 cheaper. I could order the current less expensive version and return the more expensive one when it arrived, couldn't I? Should I bother? I'll have to pay to return the more expensive one, plus I'll have to actually go to the post office etc to do it. It might be too much trouble. But... $17.

ETA - I decided to order the cheaper version and return the more expensive one. Thanks!

Did you buy the earlier one from Amazon, too? If so, you could call Amazon and see if they'd just refund the difference to you. It is technically their policy not to do this, but if you strike the right tone and get a helpful CS rep, you may succeed. I know someone who managed it last week.

When I'm faced with this, I always ask myelf how much my time is worth per hour and divide it out. Sound like $17 is enough to bother for a video game. :)

Contact them and ask for the refund automatically, Amazon is pretty nice about such things.

I've had a $10 rule for a long time. If the difference is less than $10, it usually isn't worth the time and effort. If it is over $10, than unless it is a total pain in the behind, I usually go for it.

Can you cancel the expensive one? If it's from Amazon, they let you do that if it's not already in the pipeline.

ETA Sorry; didn't see up thread :-)
