"and Spike barely manages to get a hand around the back of Xander's skull before it smashes into the tile" is possibly my favorite detail. and i love how it ends, even tho i kind of don't. i mean, i love how spike and xander come to an understanding - very sweet and boy-like, with the not actually saying anything and the kind of pretending there's nothing going on - and i love the last scene of them in the bed ("i'm not sleeping with you, i'm sleeping in this bed"), but at the same time, "there's no one else" just breaks my heart. they're all alone now, you know? which seems really unfair. makes sense, considering the rest of the story, but pretty damn depressing.
still, the whole thing is really good. grim and depressing and darkdarkdark, but it moves right along and everyone sounds in character and it's just really good.
