Jewelry storage?

Does anyone have good advice on how to safely store a small collection of jewelry (pretty much necklaces and earrings) while traveling? At home I have a wooden jewelry box with a hinged lid and in the past I've put the jewelry in a little ziploc bag in my purse, but that really doesn't seem like the best way to carry it around...

I always ask my friends list everything...

Do those tooth whitening products (the ones you can do at home, not professional ones) actually work? Can anyone share their experiences with them?
