2. Patience & Sarah by Isabel Miller - I really enjoyed this book about two young women who fall in love in early 19th century New England. While there is some angst along the way, it is overall a happy story and it has a happy ending.
3. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold - I read this thinking I wanted to read it before I saw the movie, but am now having second thoughts about seeing the movie. (I adore Peter Jackson's early film "Heavenly Creatures" and suspect that many of the things I like about it are going to be things I'll like about "The Lovely Bones," but am worried about the beginning of the movie being triggery.) It was a beautifully written book and an amazing story. The fact that I liked it surprised me, because I thought that since it was so popular it was bound to be crap.
