Question about lab tests/pap smears
Nov. 28th, 2007 07:47 pmIf you're male, run away, LOL.
I'm being charged two separate amounts for the pap smear I had done. One is from my doctor's office itself, the other is from a separate lab. I can understand being charged for the lab, since presumably someone has to, I don't know, make a smear and then examine it under a microscope or something. But my insurance covers my doctor's visits (with a co-pay) so why is there a separate charge for that? (The doctor's office "on site lab" charge is $60, the lab's "cytopathology" is $98.) The person I talked to on the phone at my doctor's office wasn't able to explain this to me so I understood -- can anyone who knows more about how insurance works help?
