Atlantis Fic: On Life and Living

This is the John/Rodney Earth AU, now polished up with the help of the lovely [livejournal.com profile] yin_again and all in one place.

On Life and Living

NC-17, if Atlantis exists it's without John and Rodney, 32K words.

It's nice to have it all in one place. :-)

One of the things I love about John and Rodney is that they're such well-drawn characters you can put them ANYWHERE and they're still real. Thanks for this story, it was terrific!

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it. :-)

Oh, I loved this. I've been reading it all afternoon, on and off, and it's just lovely. I love AU's when they end up all domestic with children. I have no words to describe how much I enjoyed it. Thankyou for writing it :)

Just finished your wonderful story. I loved the pacing of this, slow and natural, and I loved watching John and Kayla recover from Elizabeth's death and become a family. It was just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing it.

Oh, I don't know enough words to tell you just how much I loved this story. John and Rodney are completely in characters and yet, their lives are so different than the ones we know from the show. It's one of those fics that just pulls you in completely and you just have to keep on reading to know what's going to happen next. I love how you didn't speed things up. John lost his wife and he needed recovery time and you showed us that he still grieves for Elizabeth, even though he moved on with Rodney. The emotions in this fic are genuine, real and just right. I also love Kayla a lot. She's no Mary Sue, but a real little girl that misses her mom and isn't afraid to embrace someone new in her life. Wonderful stuff.

I always loved good AU's. I don't know why. I guess it's because every AU shows us the potential of what could have been. And in the SGA universe it seems that there's an infinite possibilities.

I'm bookmarking this fic and I suspect I'll be back to read it lots of times. Thanks for writing this. I certainly enjoyed reading it. :o)

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm especially glad that Kayla worked for you -- original characters are so hard to bring into fanfic successfully. I have a niece Kayla's age and I think that helped.

[identity profile] shadowserenity.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I really, really did not want this story to end. I kept scrolling down to see how much more I had to read, all the while thinking about how long I could make it last.

This was wonderful. I loved your John and Rodney and Kayla. I particularly loved the little character quirks. Rodney insisting that he spend a ton of money on them because giving money is much easier than expressing his feelings. Kayla actually talking like a nine year old child, non-linear conversations and all. And finally, I thought the way you had John deal with Elizabeth’s passing and his new relationship was well written. It was a constant in the back of his mind.

The detail was perfect here – not too overboard, but not too vague that I couldn’t form pictures in my mind of their lives. Thank you for sharing :).

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I worry that there's not enough detail in my writing -- I want to rush ahead so quickly that I tend to make the mistake of assuming that the reader can somehow psychically divine all the details that are in my head that somehow never make it out into actual words, if that makes sense.

I really liked this story. You did a great job of keeping them the same fellows we love, despite the different setting. I enjoyed reading. Thanks for sharing.

I don't remember exactly how I got here but I'm glad I did.

Such a sweet, loving story (I do love a good AU) and their characters worked so well in it... off to save it to my files!

This makes me wiggle in unashamed romantic happiness.

The scene with the first kiss was one of the most normal, real and hot first kisses ever. So lovely.

Thank you! So many of us are enormous romantics at heart, aren't we? :-)

[identity profile] porntestpilot.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that was all so gorgeous. I really liked how you followed everything, and Rodney's mum, and Jeannie. It was just really touching and sweet.

Thank you so much. :-)

Wow. That was an incredible story. I liked how you didn't negate John's feelings for Elizabeth even as he feel in love with Rodney. Even though I'm not an Elizabeth fan I think it added to the story that John could work through the pain of losing her and still find happiness.

Wonderfully done.

Wow. Beautiful. Got teary eyed a few times, especially at the end re: Elizabeth's list for John. This is one of those fics for which I keep reading fan fiction, always hoping to come across something so wonderful.

This was a really beautiful fic. The slow build-up, the characters (including the original characters!), the way you wove in their jobs and families... it all just fit perfectly.

And I have to give you special props for how you handled John's grieving for Elizabeth in a John/Rodney fic. John's love for Elizabeth was very real and at the same time Rodney managed to capture a place in his heart right next to her, without having to be in her shadow. (I'm a John/Rodney OTPer, so I can get touchy, when it comes to this ;)

Thank you very much for this wonderful read.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Totally made my weekend. You handled John's grieving so well. Also, when Kayla asked if Rodney was gay, I thought I was going to pee my pants laughing. :) Wonderful story.

Thank you. I'm sorry that I made you cry, but also pleased that it was that effective, if you know what I mean. *Hugs*

An absolutely wonderful piece, that brings tears to my eyes and a happy smile on my lips every time I read it. One of the best written AU's I know, and I've read loads.
