*Blinks*

How is it possible that Flash Gordon (the new series) is on TV, but really good shows like Firefly and Freaks and Geeks get cancelled? Every time I see an ad for the show I start laughing.

(No offense to anyone who might like Flash Gordon - different strokes etc.)

[identity profile] theamusedone.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Fox is not the one running it?

And wow, I could not even watch for five minutes. Not a quality show *G*.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, good point about the network.

It's SO BAD. We tried to watch the first episode because it was sandwiched in the time slot between two other shows we were watching but we actually had to change the channel.

I don't know. They are promoting the hell out of FG and dude, maybe if the show was not made of galaxy-killing suck...

I hate rating-wars.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! Ugh. *Squish*

[identity profile] kimberly-a.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched the first two episodes of Flash Gordon with my husband, because he's a big comic book fan, and we felt the same way. Wonderfalls and Deadwood get canceled, but this crap is on the air?

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so bizarre! And frustrating.

[identity profile] ruthless1.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Fox runs the universe so they are making sure that really good shows get cancelled and they use their evil influence to make sure that bad shows stay on the air. They are evil like that.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
There we go! We'll blame Fox. They certainly deserve it. Sheesh.

[identity profile] viciouswishes.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That is an eternal question.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It really, really is. Ugh.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_inbetween_/ 2007-10-22 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
FG is the only show I've seen nothing but bad reviews for, on and off LJ *shrugs*

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, that's a good point. Most other shows I don't like seem to have at least SOME fans amongst the people on my flist, but this one doesn't seem to have any...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_inbetween_/ 2007-10-24 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
PS: are you sure it'll get renewed? As discussed, the dislike seems really too widespread and "Stern said Sci Fi has made no decision yet on whether to renew "Flash Gordon," another Friday-night original, for a second season." SGA will be (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117974591.html?categoryid=14&cs=1), though.

And for that matter, why did that show basically replace Dresden Files which was far more watchable. There's no explaining network executives IMO.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! I wasn't watching Dresden Files but at least there were a number of people on my flist who WERE watching it and liking it. Sheesh.

I don't get it either. Plus it tends to run over so I missed the last 2 minutes of SGA on Friday. Those extra minutes I've seen don't seem to be all that great.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The fact that it's extra long is extra annoying! Geez.

[identity profile] julia-here.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing that kills me is that the current TV version is worse than the old movie serials! I took a "History of American Cinema" class once where we saw an episode of Flash Gordon in every class period; it was awful, in the way that comic books and B movies from the period wre also aweful, but it was surreallly and consciously aweful in a way that the latter version isn't. My son is watching it, but since he's working Friday nights he's now watching it while I go grocery shopping on Saturday, so, YAY!

Julia, for I really can't ignore such suck when it's running in my ears

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the fact that it's even worse than the old originals is kind of terrifying, really. I'm sorry you're being exposed to it!

[identity profile] tygerseye.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
And why is it that I am being forced to watch (DVR) Flash Gordon so I can see the short outtakes about BSG? That annoys me, too.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, that IS annoying! *Hugs*

Oh my god, WG, I can't tell you what a *trial* Friday night from 9 to 10 is for me. I can either watch "Moonlight", a craptastic show about an emo (and not in the good Angel way) vampire or "Flash Gordon", a craptastic remake of a craptastic original.

*And*, to add insult to injury, they're both all that separates me from my beloved Stargate Atlantis.

My life is so hard.

*g*

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I did watch the whole first episode of Moonlight, which annoyed me because of the excessive voiceover (and I like voiceovers usually,) unlike Flash Gordon which I only watched like 15 minutes of. It *is* hard to kill that time before SGA!!!

About the only good thing I have to say about it is that the women characters have some real agency and identity separate from the male characters. Alas, they all look alike (no, really) and it's all written badly besides. So annoying, really.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-10-24 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Well, honestly that's the first positive thing I've heard about it! O.o
