Assorted stuff. Today is Tuesday.

Today I decided to tackle my most recent upswing of rosacea by going to the drug store and spending money. Well, first I went to the bank, and then the library, but then I went to CVS and bought Eucerin Redness Relief in a little sample sized kit. Came home and did a little research, only to discover that several of the products in this line include ingredients that are REALLY not recommended for people with rosacea. So I went BACK to CVS (and yes, this is a typical pattern for me when buying stuff, which is why shopping is not high on my list of Fun Things To Do) and exchanged the Eucerin kit for a Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing bar and a homeopathic sulfur-based facial gel called Prosacea (both of which ARE recommended for people with rosacea, and sulfur is one of the ingredients in the prescription medications for rosacea.) So I'll give those a try. I also bought a compact of some of that blocky-colored mineral-type makeup in green shades that's meant to lessen the appearance of redness. It cost MUCH more than I usually spend on makeup (because I so rarely wear any) but it makes SENSE that it should help. Right? *Sighs* I'm also going to try to drink 10-12 glasses of water each day, because that's also supposed to help.

I'm 26k words into the original slash fic (is it lame to call it slash instead of m/m erotica? I like the term 'slash') I've been working on, but I've done nothing on it in at least a week. I really hate that I get almost-to-the-end of stories and then hit this wall. It really stinks.

The cat is mad because I threw away the plastic bag the stuff from CVS came in before she could make love to it. No, seriously. She nuzzles the plastic bags and then licks them until we take them away from her. She keeps jumping up onto the little telephone table (where we usually put stuff as we come in the door) and looking for the bag that she knows should be there. *Feels no sympathy*

Awwww, the kitty missed out on her bag sex! :D One of my sister's cats has a plastic bag fetish. She started out licking the bags, which was cute until she started eating them too, so now plastic bags are verboten. :P

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
This kitty just licks the bags, fortunately, but we used to have a cat that would try to eat them. It's a weird cat fetish!

[identity profile] cheesygirl.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Tilly's taken to sleeping on them lately, if I leave some on the floor, but doesn't try to lick or eat them, thankfully. I still don't know how she can prefer a cold, slick plastic bag to a soft, warm, gooshy bed or sofa. O_o

My Wendell has a plastic-bag fetish too. The kittens will play with them because they make fun noises, but Wendell nuzzles them and licks them and sleeps with his head pillowed on them if I give him a chance.

Yup! That's Zoe exactly. She loooooves the plastic. LOL!

One of my cats makes love to bags as well. It's funny, but it's also disturbing, the intensity that she'll go after them.

There are some f-locked photos of the cat having bag!sex starting here -

Cetaphil is great. I don't use it much anymore, but I went through a period where I had very dry, sensitive skin, and it was a great product. My sister, who has dryer skin than I, still uses it. It's nice too that you don't *have* to use water with it, and it is pretty good with makeup removal.

Ha, Frankie hearts plastic bags too. HE doesn't make love to every single one, but he's fond of particular ones, like the type we use to line the kitchen trash can. He sneaks up to it and rubs against it before licking it lovingly but surreptitiously (his is a forbidden love!).

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The Cetaphil lotion isn't gentle enough for me, but I think that's because I'm kind of freakish. I see it recommended everywhere as one of the gentlest cleansers around. I'm hoping the bar kind will be better, since it doesn't contain any alcohol, plus it was only $4 so I figured it was worth a try.

We use grocery store bags in our bathroom trash can (they're the perfect size) and the cat really goes after those unless I'm VERY careful about tucking the edges down in. Silly kitties!!

(his is a forbidden love!)

LOL!

Sophie licks bags and other plastic objects (like laundry baskets), too, though not all that often. My parents' cat, though, goes after them like they're kitty treats.

Cats are so strange! :-P

[identity profile] kimberly-a.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Please do write about your experience with the products you bought. I have acne rosacea, too, and have never found a regimen that helps. I don't have much money, but I would still be interested to know.

One of our cats loves plastic, too. She likes the really thin plastic, like the plastic of grocery bags, and she likes to chew it. She can smell it from anywhere in the house and she'll come and steal it from wherever we leave it.

She likes Pop Tart wrappers, too. Weird.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll let you know how the products turn out! Other than the makeup (and I'm sure most people would laugh at me thinking that $13 for a compact is "expensive," it's just that we're on such a tight budget and most of the makeup I buy costs less than $5) the other products weren't too pricey. The Cetaphil bar, which should last many months if I don't let it sit around in puddles of water, was $3.99. The Prosacea (which is sort of like a gel in a little tube, and was in the section of the store with the first aid cream and poison ivy ointment and cortisone cream) was $9.99. I'm going to be pretty sparing with it to start, though, mostly because I'm worried I'm going to react badly to it. It says you can apply it to freshly washed skin 1-3 times a day, but I'm going to stick with once a day for the first week in case all my skin starts sloughing off!

Yes! Our kitty likes the thin, crinkly plastic. I wonder if it's partially the sound that they like? Pop-tart wrappers have that same thin, crinkly quality...

I used to have actual acne with my acne rosacea, but now I'm on a medication which has the pleasant side-effect of clearing up my skin. Now all I have is the redness, which I've despaired of fixing, because I've always assumed it's due to the same sort of thing as blushing: blood beneath the skin. If it's actually caused by some sort of surface irritation, then maybe products like these can help. I must admit (with some embarrassment) that I've never read up on acne rosacea's causes or potential fixes. I have always just figured I have to live with it. Maybe I should read up on it now.

[identity profile] ruthless1.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
My cat just LOVES my hemp grocery bag. He LIVES on it. And he loves my book bag - he also lives on that. He is a freakishly freakish cat. I call him the bag cat. He also loves my neighbors backpack too.
Did you ever get a chance to try any primrose oil for your rosacea? That is supposed to help but I am not sure of the dosage.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't tried the primrose oil yet (I haven't been able to find it nearby but I suspect I know where I can get some) -- it's on my list, though, along with Jojoba oil, which is also supposed to be good. :-)

I find I have to say m/m in the wider world of erotica, becasue otherwise people don't know what you're talking about. But really it is slash.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, yes, I think you're right. It's mostly just us fannish types who know it as slash. :-)

[identity profile] witchwillow.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
is it lame to call it slash instead of m/m erotica?

I call it SOFt for Slashy Original Fiction. And the T is for text vs art. Mostly because I live in the house with someone who goes 'But what's your fandom, Slash is about fandom'. And the other part of it is that I want to put a label to it before someone else does.

The more I read LJ the more I find people who're willing to read or write it and would like to think they'd know exactly what they were getting.

And my kitty likes bags too. It's like she has to inspect everything, even stuff that gets used every day but went outside, just in case we bring home strange microbes or something.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I like that - SOFt. :-)

Silly kitties!

[identity profile] witchwillow.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The silliest part is when she gets the bag hooked around her shoulders and scuttles around the house like kitty Superman with a cape. And when you take the bag away, she whines like you just killed her best friend.

[identity profile] tx-cronopio.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
That's funny -- just this morning, GMA recommended the Eucerin stuff. They probably got a nice chunk of change :)

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It could be good for all I know -- but two of the four products contained alcohol in various forms, and alcohol is one of the no-nos for rosacea, so it's a bit of a mystery. It also seemed to me that it was focused on 'hiding the redness' rather than dealing with what's CAUSING the redness, if that makes any sense. The SPF-lotion is tinted with green, so it seems like it would definitely help hide the redness...

[identity profile] picayochan.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
We've had good luck with Cetaphil on my son's eczema. It isn't as bad as it was when he was about 8 weeks old but it remains on the backs of his knees. The wash and the moisturizer are great. Very gentle.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The Cetaphil liquid cleanser isn't gentle enough for me, but I've definitely thought about trying the moisturizer. I'm mostly hesitant because it only seems to come in a BIG bottle, LOL, and I'm worried I'll have to stop using it in three days and end up with ridiculous amounts left.

[identity profile] picayochan.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
My pediatrician said the stuff in the tub is more moisturizing than the more traditional lotion, but it's like $15 for the smallest size! That's kept us from trying it too.

[identity profile] kc-risenphoenix.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL!

I can just imagine. Cats are so f*cking weird. I am a dog person.

Not that dogs aren't weird!

Original slash! Original slash! Original slash! Original slash! Original slash! Original slash! Original slash!

I can't wait!!!!

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Cats ARE weird. But yes, dogs are, too. :-)

[identity profile] kaydee23.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
My dogs tear up kleenex and paper towels. I spent 45 minutes vacuuming my whole apartment, and I came back to the living room to find paper towel, kleenex droppings *every where.*

My late kitty, Reno Jones, loved paper grocery sacks and newspaper. He could amuse himself for hours running in and out of the grocery sack or hiding under the newspaper. He actually seemed to think he was invisible under there.

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, pets. We love them so, but their messes, not so much! ;-)
