OMG, GWD

Geraint Wyn Davies is fucking hot.

Is Slings and Arrows any good?

Is Slings and Arrows any good?

It's wonderful. It took me a couple of episodes to get into the first season, but then there was no stopping me. The third season is not cheerful, but very well done.

Slings and Arrows season 1 is bar none the best six hours of TV I have ever seen. Go! Watch!

Forever Knight Flashback! I adored that show. And him.

Slings and Arrows is wonderful!

Slings and Arrows is terrific, especially if you love Theatre. Loads of fun, well worth tracking down and renting.

Yes. Yes, he is. :-)

(Over twelve years in Forever Knight fandom now, and counting.)

It's WONDERFUL.

::giggles::

I know not this Slings and Arrows of which you speak.

But ... a long time ago in a galaxy far ... um, wrong universe. Anyway, I used to DO the theatre (NYC, Toronto and Shaw Festival). One year I saw GWD in a delightfully deranged play, Cloud 9, in Toronto. Then, the next time I was at the Shaw Festival, I bumped into him on the main drag and enjoyed a lovely chat with him about his work. The man is utterly golden.

Reminiscing hugs,
H.

Yay! I'm going to get it from Netflix. :-)

Yeah, I loved Forever Knight too. This morning I saw him on Cube 2, which was not a very good movie, but he was still fucking hot. :-)

I'm going to get Slings and Arrows from Netflix. Thank you!

He is so, so hot. It's been ages since I saw Forever Knight (I was a massive Nick/Natalie shipper and know nothing about the fandom -- is it totally uncool to admit that?) but I saw him in Cube 2 the movie this morning and he was so, so hot. Did I mention how hot he is? So, so hot. :-)

Hee! SO HOT.

Thanks! Sounds like the concensus is that it's definitely worth watching, so I've added it to my Netflix queue. :-)

Cool! I'm going to get it from Netflix. :-)

I know you've been convinced already, but Slings and Arrows rocks hard! Geraint Wyn Davies is also cool, but he doesn't show up until the second season. Do watch the seasons in order thought, there's a progression :-D

[identity profile] petzipellepingo.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
And... if you're in the mood for a little trip this Summer, he will be appearing in Hamlet (http://www.stratfordfestival.ca/plays/hamlet.cfm) at the Stratford Festival in Ontario.

>"I was a massive Nick/Natalie shipper and know nothing about the fandom -- is it totally uncool to admit that?)"

Nope. Well, maybe just a teensy little bit uncool. ;-) Not because most of us don't have Nick/Natalie streaks; it's the most popular slant to this day, no question! Rather, the idea of affiliating by pairing didn't come to FK fandom until relatively late, after the online fandom had already affiliated by single characters for the purpose of making teams in a recurring, round-robin fanfiction game. So ever since people began affiliating by pairing (Nick&NatPacker = a Nick/Natalie shipper, Immortal Beloved = Nick/Janette, Unnamed Faction = Nick/Lacroix ... and on and on), some people have perhaps considered the original single-character orientations to be cooler than the couple orientations.

That has little to do with interpreting the story, of course. But you mentioned coolness, and the "factions" from the fic game are frequently FK fandom's first referent there.

More than you wanted to know, right? :-) If you feel any urge to wander around FK, please let me know if I can help! The whole series is out on DVD at last, most of the best authors are still available on the web, and the original mailing list still runs and is still the touchstone of the fandom.

>"Did I mention how hot he is? So, so hot. :-)"

My fannish triumph for 2007 was recognizing him by voice in his uncredited, almost off-screen cameo in the Nancy Drew movie this summer, and being the first to gleefully bring that news home to the mailing list. GWD's hotness is well-rounded, and much enhanced by his remarkable audio contributions. ;-)

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, if you wanted to point me toward where I could find good Nick/Natalie stories, that would be awesome. Or even just a good archive where I could search things out for myself? Or a good recs list? LOL!

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone seems to think so! Yay! :-)

[identity profile] wesleysgirl.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'll watch S1 first anyway. If I end up not liking it, I'd likely not watch S2 just to see GWD, although you never know. :-) Thanks!

N&N Fanfiction

[identity profile] studiesinlight.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
This I can do! :-)

The first FK author I recommend to anyone is Susan G (http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/2167/fiction.htm). Different authors shine outstandingly in different areas, but by any all-around measure, she is the best of us. It was a happy choice when she was tapped to write the second of the scant three pro FK novels. Her Dorian the Archivist (http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/2167/dorian.htm) stories are considered the next thing to canon.

For general archives and recommendation lists, the Bright Knight recommendation-of-the-month (http://users.lmi.net/akr/fk/recommen/) project is still going, and the Screed Was Here (http://screed.blackraptor.net/fanfic/) third-season-character-focused archive posts by invitation only. The ancient, original FK FTP Archive (http://www.fkvoyage.com/fkfanfic/) is no longer FTP, but it's still a treasure trove. There's also FK fanfic.com (http://www.fkfanfic.com/), which is prominent.

But you asked specifically for N&N content! I'm not an N&Ner most days, but I understudy the role on occasion. :-) You may want to try Dorothy's (http://www.loftworks.com/wftk/fiction.html) "Somewhere" stories; almost anything by Chris H. (http://www.fkvoyage.com/fkfanfic/hunt_christine/), with her "The Bargain" being a favorite; Eve (http://www.angelfire.com/mb/malecandra/fanfic/fkfanfic.html), particularly "Reckless Pantomime;" Valerie (http://www.wiliqueen.com/fanfic/) is known for her Natalie and Nick friendship content; and Ophelia5 (http://home.earthlink.net/~ophelia5/story.html) is the most respected FK N&N erotica author (though she can be on the violent side by my personal measures), and you would want to start there with her renowned "Physical Therapy." Soulseeker (http://www.fkvoyage.com/fkfanfic/soulseeker/) has led the N&Npack faction forever, but she doesn't write much herself. And the N&Npack Adult Archive (http://www.geocities.com/nnpacker001/MainAdultPage.htm) has apparently suffered a crash of some sort, losing a lot of material. Sadly for us, M&K took down their remarkable Natalie Lambert, Vampire Coroner series years ago; they've since turned it into a pro trilogy, which is good for them.

There are many more authors. I don't want to drown you in names. ... Jean (http://www.nancykam.com/fanfic/jean/jgfic.html), Jill (http://www.kirbyfest.net/fiction.html), Cindy (http://www.nancykam.com/fanfic/cindy/cific.html), Kathy (http://www.nancykam.com/fanfic/kathy/kwfic.html), Mary Co. (http://home.earthlink.net/~combsmfk/), Imajiru (http://imajiru.7dragons.net/fiction/fk/index.html) ... Okay, maybe a little drowning with names. :-) None of these are exclusively N&N, though they've all had strong N&N phases.

Please let me know if I can point out something more specific for you.

FK Author on your F-List

[identity profile] studiesinlight.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
P.S. At least one person on your Friends List is an FK author. [livejournal.com profile] zortified co-founded the original FK erotica mailing list, and is best known for Nick/Lacroix content, but also wrote memorable gen, usually featuring Schanke.
