Firefly money

Even after reading this page pointed out by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] justhuman, I'm still trying to sort out what Inara might charge for her services.

The first question is, does Inara get paid in official, Alliance based credits, or in border world platinum? It makes sense that, as an official, sanctioned Companion, she'd be paid in credits, but since credits are an electronic form of money, wouldn't that make it awfully easy to track her and thus Serenity?

Part of the issue is whether or not Inara charges for a set amount of time, which I'd imagine she does (vs charging a certain amount of money for each individual act performed during that amount of time.) If a high-class call girl in today's society can make $1000-1500 an hour, then what would she charge for an entire evening, or a day, or a weekend? I'm thinking that half a day (from late afternoon until late evening) might cost the equivalent of $5,000; 24 hours might cost $10,000. Does that sound way off-base?

5,000 of today's dollars = 500 platinum = 200 credits
10,000 dollars = 1000 platinum = 400 credits

I'd love some discussion on this.

I went to the panel for the Serenity Sourcebook at Comic-Con - Margaret Weis stated they got all the material ever produced by Joss & Co. - including the comic books scripts (the books hadn't all been released back in July) - and everything in the book had to be approved by Joss & Universal. Until it gets Jossed, that would be the best source to find out about money.
