flaming_muse posted last night about missing the Jossverse
and we got to talking about how there should be a fic rec meme of some kind. From the responses to her post, it's clear there are a lot of people who still love the shows and the characters, and who miss them something dreadful. Thus, I present the meme...Please post in your own journal recommending 5 (or more) of your favorite Jossverse fics. Stories should be the ones that best remind you of what you loved about the shows -- this can be the dialogue, the characters, the plots, the angst, the humor, or whatever you find yourself missing the most. (It's okay to include self-recs on your list! You can also choose to do only BtVS or Ats stories instead of both. Do what you feel like.) Comment to this post with a link to your post, and I'll compile a master list of the recs so that we can all feel the love. Feel free to pimp this far and wide!
My five favorites for this purpose (recapturing the love I have for the shows):The Signs That We Missed
. Series of vignettes. OMG so good that it hurts. The Weary World Rejoicing
. Xander Harris, Spike, Christmas 2003, but in an AU where the events of "The Gift" went very differently. There's a sequel, Out Of This Stony Rubbish
. I love these because they combine the despair and hope of the Jossverse really beautifully.Losing My Religion
. Angel, Wesley. This is gorgeous and full of despair. Kita knows how to write, and more importantly, she knows how to write Wesley and Angel. This story is like poetry, an exercise in the beauty of pain and solitude. It's powerful and unique and utterly spellbinding.Sidelines
. Spike/Xander. This is a classic in fandom, a series of little vignettes that flow together to create a complete story. Set during season 4, it pulls a little canon-switcheroo with Xander becoming the one who has the Big Revelation that he's gay, instead of Willow. Contains a really interesting rewrite of the Xander dream from "Restless," and takes a number of other little forays into canon. The sex in this story is unbelievably hot. This is Spike at his pre-Buffylove best: angry, sarcastic, as Big as Bad can be with a chip in his head.Epiphany series
. Okay, so this is a series and not just one story, but they all flow together and it's hard to separate one out. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. I'm a huge fan of Angel/Wesley as a pairing and of Wesley in particular (obviously) and these are the stories, when I first came creeping into fandom, that cemented that love.
Bonus fic: Lost in the Supermarket
by Lint. Wesley and Illyria. At the supermarket.
